X Classics at the Rendez-Vous of the X-Yachts Owner Association Italy at the Vela Cup in Cala de Medici

In the sailing world, there are shipyards capable of becoming standard-bearers for a style and philosophy. E X-Yachts is certainly one of them.

Born in 1979 on the wave of the as striking as it was small, X-79, the Danish shipyard is in fact known around the world for being synonymous with quality, performance and seaworthiness, attributes often and willingly contained in an aesthetically pleasing and attractive ‘package’-a recipe that is never wrong for satisfying the market. From its origins, therefore, the brand has been able to attract to itself a good range of aficionados, enthusiastic and passionate owners, but it is only in recent years that, in Italy, this has translated into something more, a real association: it is the X-Yachts Owners Association Italia, founded in 2023 and today strong in being one of the most active in the world. So if you are an X-Yachts owner (recent or Classic Boat), read well, because the next few lines speak to you.

X-Yachts Owners Association Italy: a success founded on an ageless passion

Let’s skip the premise. It all begins in April 2023, when seven boat owners meet in the Golfo dei Poeti (La Spezia). A lunch among enthusiasts that sparks the idea: to share not only the passion for sailing, but also the pride of owning an X-Yachts boat, and everything that comes with it. Hence, the association -supported by X-Yachts Italia- was born, and in just over two years it already brings together some 40 owners. An important number, considering the niche market in which the shipyard moves. But what makes it successful is not only the brand in common: it is the activities, the experiences and the sharing…

Activities and outbuildings

Making the success of the initiative, first and foremost, the heart of the everything, passion and activities. Indeed, this dual characteristic has led the organization to be among the most active in the world, strong in joint sailings, sailings, organized outings and Rendez-Vous. But activities are not just limited to the water, and it is here that, perhaps more than ever, the true desire to share emerges: in addition to meetings ashore, dinners and the pleasure of time spent together, the Association in fact also organizes technical moments and educational experiences-a side of the community that has seen members discuss issues related to the maintenance and care of individual hulls, as well as hands-on visits, including those to the Harken factories and the X-Yachts shipyard in Denmark, the birthplace of their hulls.

The Classics are also part of the X Family

A particularly interesting aspect, the Classic component of the X-Yachts Owners Association Italy, which precisely makes no distinction between recent models and Classic Boats. Because X-Yachts, regardless of age, remains a brand bound by philosophy and quality, which have emerged and been consolidated, precisely, in the evolution of the hulls themselves, thus acting as a testament to the shipyard’s design goodness. And the ranks of entrants confirm this, emphasizing quite a few Classic Boats, that is, the models that not only wrote the history of the shipyard and continue to sail in the same spirit as ever, but have made sailing history themselves.

X-302

We are talking, of course, about exceptional hulls, boats such as theX-332, theX-412 (first model in the Performance Cruiser range) or theX-302. But there is also no shortage of the great X-562 or the legendary X-95 -which in 1983 won no less than the Half Ton World Championship.

And while these presences are not surprising, they are nonetheless worth noting, as their inclusion, first and foremost, means giving space also to those who, in their own way, keep alive and carry on a piece of sailing history, sharing experiences, culture and heritage. What keeps the owners together, in fact, is a common philosophy that looks at the quality of the hull underfoot, boats that are designed to really sail and that are not mere objects, but a complex of experiences and evolutions that still give common passions.

Double opportunity for ‘Classic’ shipowners

Owning an X-Yachts today is not just about owning a high-performance, well-built boat-it is also an opportunity to join a community of like-minded owners who share the same vision of sailing.
And this is even more true if we are talking about a classical X. In this case, there are two doors opening and they are not mutually exclusive:
on the one hand the X-Yachts Owners Association Italy (info: in**@******ta.com), which brings together owners of all ages and models by promoting meetings, sailings and training;
On the other hand, the Classic Boat Club, the project of the Sailing Newspaper that values all classic boats (over 25 years old) and certifies them through the of the Official Register of Classic Boats of Historical Value.

Two complementary realities, not alternatives: the former more specialized on the X-Yachts world, the latter open to all “timelessness.”
