The racing season in Italy, with the Winter Championships just around the corner and the Barcolana just concluded, has now entered its prime. Every weekend there is a good opportunity to enjoy regattas, including one-design, offshore, and top-level or open regattas. Here is what has been happening on the race courses over the past few days, starting with the verdict of the Italian Offshore Championship.
The Italian Offshore Championship

After 16 regattas, with the conclusion of the Trieste-San Giovanni in Pelago-Trieste, the last regatta on the program, an enthralling Italian Offshore Championship ended with Colombre, Massimo Juris’ JPK 10.80, Double Handed prevailing as did the second and third place finishers. For Juris, it is yet another prestigious recognition in the offshore world, where he is now unquestionably one of the most experienced shipowners there is in Italy.

Regattas – Maserati’s electric turnaround
Maserati Multi70 returns to the water after a busy shipyard on several fronts. In addition to the important work of repairing the damage caused by the whirlwind that struck upper Tuscany and Liguria last August 18, hitting the boat on the shoal and hurling it to the ground, Giovanni Soldini and the Maserati Multi70 team have been focusing their forces on starting the electrification program. Research, innovation, technology, and performance have always been at the heart of the Maserati Multi70 project, which now mounts a first version of the electric system on board to test its efficiency and provide for correcting defects and improving performance in the tuning of the updated model, which will be launched in spring 2023. More concretely, about 2.5 kilowatts are needed to power the on-board equipment every day. When sailing, solar panels provide self-sufficiency, but in prolonged bad weather the problem is storing enough energy to support maneuvering once we arrive in port. To meet these needs, the electric motor and battery currently being tested will be brought up to full efficiency.Share:
