The Finnish Baltic shipyard has begun construction of the brand new 110 Custom, a super deck saloon with a “hybrid” soul: suitable for high-performance sailing, including racing, but with exceptional below-deck comfort designed for long luxury cruises with the family. The launch of the new yacht, commissioned by a sailor with considerable racing experience, is scheduled for May 2023.

All the technology of the Baltic 110 Custom

Baltic Yachts, founded in 1973 by five former Nautor Swan shipyard employees with the goal of making lighter, stiffer and faster boats, has always been at the forefront of research and use of materials and technologies on board. The new 110 Custom is no different.

This is the second project developed in collaboration with naval architect Malcolm McKeon, who designed Baltic 112 Liara and enjoyed considerable success with Missy and Rebel (two 33-meter superyachts built by Vitters Shipyard). To the carbon hull, a dark bronze metallic color, with integrated dolphin deck, the deck and deck saloon superstructure, also all in carbon, has just been glued. Completing the boat’s features are a telescoping keel, which allows the draft to be reduced from 5.80 to 3.80 meters, and a versatile sail plan with classic mainsail for cruising to a powerful square top for racing.

Baltic 110 Custom is ECO

Designed to be eco-efficient, the new 110 Custom is the Baltic shipyard’s third yacht to feature an electric propulsion system powered by lithium-ion batteries. The engine, a 247 kW Danfoss, drives a folding propeller, preferred over a more complex and expensive variable-pitch hydraulic one, which can recharge the batteries while sailing by taking advantage of the hydrogeneration provided by the freewheeling propeller. Supporting the system are two low-emission diesel generators and an advanced solar panel system. Finally, an efficient heat recovery system allows energy loss from the air conditioning system to be used to heat domestic hot water.

Interiors

The interior design is by Swedish architect Andreas Martin-Löf, who was able to build bright, handcrafted finished cabins on the carbon structure. Natural lighting, provided by the panoramic deck-saloon deckhouse, is supplemented by artificial lighting that spills over the walls of the rice paper and walnut interior. A color scheme that echoes that of the on-board furniture, giving the cabins a feeling of simplicity and uniformity.

The designer’s signature minimalist style combines with the craftsmanship of Baltic’s workers to inject warmth and comfort into a fundamentally clean and uncluttered style.
