Thousands of miles from Paris, in the middle of the Indian Ocean (where the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race is being run), the French sailors of Dongfeng Race Team did not fail to make their voices heard in response to the attack on the headquarters of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo (which cost 12 people their lives). “Any other day we are Dongfeng, but today we are Charlie,” let skipper Charles Caudrelier, Thomas Rouxel and Eric Peron know.

We, as the Journal of Sailing, also want to express our solidarity with our colleagues (and others) who were killed. We remember one in particular, Georges Wolinski, a satirical cartoonist, illustrator, and comic strip artist who was also well known in Italy: in fact, Linus magazine featured the beautiful Paulette (a character created in tandem with Georges Pichard) in the 1970s. The son of a Pole and an Italian who emigrated to Tunisia, he made his debut as a cartoonist for Hara-Kiri magazine, followed by Action, Paris-Presse, Hara-Kiri Hebdo,Charlie Hebdo, L’Humanité, and finally Paris-Match. He was editor-in-chief of Charlie Mensuel, the monthly magazine of Charlie Hebdo.
Today, we at the Sailing Newspaper are also Charlie.
