Boat of the Year 2023
In America and Europe, we do not always think alike when it comes to boats. Demonstration from the nominees for the 2023 U.S. sailing boat “Oscars.” U.S. trade magazines Cruising World and Sailing World announced at the Annapolis Boat Show, the largest U.S. boat show dedicated to boating, the nominees for the Boat of the Year 2023 award. Un opportunity to introduce you not only to the new products presented at the fall shows, but also to unearth the “goodies” that overseas sailors like so much.
It is therefore not surprising that within the list of nominated boats find a place for several dinghies and some small boats, almost real sport boats. In America, there is a sailing culture coming from the lakes that is almost stronger than the one, however important, that there is in Italy, which is why the magazine choices for Boat of the Year also reflect this trend.
BOAT OF THE YEAR – SMALL FOR ALL TASTES

Let’s start with the “small” candidates for the sailing Oscar. Boats like the Minicat 310, an inflatable catamaran that in minutes becomes a perfect lake boat or for a sailing school on a beach. There is also, again in drift style, the SOL, a modern take on the legendary Sunfish, antithetical to the very fast Nacra 500 MK2 catamaran.

The latter is a more sporty cat, but still suitable for sailing school and especially perfect for the beach because due to the special shape of its hulls it does not need dinghies.

Also on the same wavelength is the Tiwal, a dinghy with an inflatable hull and a windsurf-like sail: when the equipment is disassembled and the hull deflated, it can also be stowed aboard a cruising sailboat.
The small L30, on the other hand, is the sportboat that long looked like it could become an Olympic boat, but it is also ideal for sport cruises and small regattas.
THE GREAT CLASSICS

There is also no shortage of classic cruisers in this selection from American magazines, such as the X-Yachts 4.3 MK2, a performance cruiser from the highly successful Danish shipyard.
Also similar in philosophy is the Lyman Morse 46, which comes from Thomaston, a shipyard based in Maine. Geared to the tastes of sportier cruisers are the First 36, the J/45, the cat Balanche 442 and the Neel 43.
