South Africa is a country where a number of globally successful shipbuilding businesses, including in the world of catamarans, have already been established for some time. Also located here is the Vision Yachts shipyard, specializing in multihulls, which produces the Vision 444, a modern cruising catamaran.
At 13.5 meters long and 7.60 meters wide, the Vision is a cruiser that seeks to break the typical “villa on the sea” catamaran paradigm by mixing some design elements typically dedicated to comfort with others that take into account sailing characteristics.
Vision 444 – What cat is

Cruising we said, with a fully covered cockpit, the asymmetrical exterior command area positioned on a covered semi flybridge where the wheelhouse and primary winches are located. Steering that is of course repeated inside by taking advantage of the large glazed deckhouse.
The bows are fine, with netting between the two hulls, an element that contains the boat’s overall displacement and, thanks to lean volumes, also hints at a good propensity to sail upwind. The sail plan relies on a Square top mainsail of generous size, and a self-tacking jib that takes advantage of a discrete bow J. The decision to place the jib rails forward of the deckhouse is interesting, so that the sail profile reaches as low as possible while maximizing the total area. Short and trapezoidal the two keels, more oriented to reducing draft than to performance.
Vision 444 – The Interior

Watchword: natural light. With such a totally panoramic deckhouse, there is no shortage of light aboard the 444. The 4-cabin layout meets just about every need, from owner to charter, and the interior has a good mix of composite and wood furniture that, on the one hand is good for aesthetics, and on the other hand does not weigh down the catamaran too much. There is also no shortage of windows, numerous in number, along the hulls, serving the cabins and interior facilities, following the design mantra of bringing as much natural nuce on board as possible.
