Save Marinariello, mythical Classic Boat of the Adriatic!
Let’s start with the basics. Marinariello is not just any boat, let alone a Farr 39, as we often hear. Marinariello is in fact the Farr Yacht Design #277, which is a Farr 40 IMS mod. (11,904 x 3,794 m) built by Cookson (NZ) in 1992 on commission from Florentine notary Sergio Galgani. A pioneering IMS 40, forerunner of later designs #336 and #374, Farr 39ML and Farr 40 One Design, respectively, hulls destined to set class standards in the following decade. But Marinariello is also much more.

A history that precedes classifications
After surfing the New Zealand waves, Marinariello arrives in Italy and soon becomes the star of the Adriatic’s race courses. In fact, since 2000, under Carlo De Bona, the boat will be present in the championships in Lignano Sabbiadoro, only to be updated, in 2008, with a first refit intended to adopt a longer bulb, to further improve the already exceptional performance.

In 2010, a small tragedy. During the Trieste-San Giovanni in Pelago – Trieste, Marinariello loses its bulb and is wrecked. She will thus also lose the mast, broken into three parts, and all the electronics on board. Be careful, however, because this is far from being at its end. In fact, the boat will be fully restored, see the original bulb reassembled and a new mast, this time, from a Farr 40 One Design.

Rebirth: a new course
In 2021 Marinariello was entrusted to Francesca De Bona who, with an initial group of friends, tried to bring her back to sea. However, the initial refitting does not prove sufficient and, in 2022, a new stop due to the failure of part of the equipment, forces Marinariello ashore. It is at this moment of great difficulty, however, that a new force comes to coalesce.

Around the boat rallies a team of experts and professionals, all convinced and able to see the potential in the boat, in turn inspired by Francesca’s passion. Thus, the boat returns to form and, on August 28, 2022, at the Campionato Italiano Assoluto di Altura, Marinariello takes third place in Class (Group B). It will be among the best results ever achieved by the boat in its long history. It is the La to set the tone for a new season.
It only takes so many days for the Marinariello Yachting ASD, an association built around the goal of creating a mixed crew, to simultaneously start a new adventure and unite amateur sailors and champions in an inclusive and successful project.

The fall, and the new flight
July 2023, Marinariello Is winged for simple seasonal work. Replacement of two sea intakes and antifouling treatment are planned. However, the unthinkable happens.Marinariello falls out of the reservoir while ashore.

The damages are extensive, but thanks to the Preventive Technical Assessment, liability has been established and today the Team is awaiting the conclusion of the compensation process. Meanwhile, everything is ready for a new rebirth. The work plan has been validated by the technical support of Trimarine, which has ensured complete technical feasibility. The estimates are finalized, and the team is ready to put back Marinariello in the water. After all, it is a boat that deserves to sail again ..
In addition to its unique story, in fact, the team tells us, “Marinariello has technical features that still make her an attractive racing project today. The Cookson Hull, Farr Yacht Design #277, is an exceptional hull, and all the equipment is faultless. In fact, the following are present two complete sets of sails-one recently supplied by One Sails (including Code 0 and A0), one spare for training; to which is added the newly installed rigging, an Oceanic 8-place raft, properly overhauled, all technical and rating documentation is up to date and, the original Farr bulb, is itself certified. Excellent, also the electronics, fully overhauled and ready to be re-installed.”
Become a co-owner of the revival
Marinariello is more than a boat. In short, it is a story, an idea of authentic sailing, a project of inclusion and sport that has already proven its human and competitive value. Most importantly, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those who wish to become active participants in its rebirth-as the team tells it.
“We are looking for one or more partners, owners, entrepreneurs, enthusiasts, who would like to enter into co-ownership of the boat, and thus accompany us in the restoration phase, as well as help build a new sporting, social and educational cycle.”
“Those who make themselves available will be provided with the entire technical dossier, including certificates, invoices, work plan, Trimarine technical project, and details on crew and planned activities. Those who join us will be part of something much bigger than a nautical investment: they will co-author the rebirth of an icon of Italian sailing.”
“Finally, we thank the Sailing Newspaper and the Classic Boat Club for giving us a platform in the hope of restoring new life to this beautiful hull. Marinariello deserves it “.
