In this episode, we take you on a discovery of Alessandro Comuzzi, an Italian designer of boats outside the mainstream.

Comuzzi, an Italian talent

Like all boats in Comuzzi Yachts’ C32 range, the C-32 Weekender
is fully customizable, owner-friendly.

A young and innovative Italian designer, Alessandro Comuzzi has made his passion a profession: after founding his first design studio – Alessandro Comuzzi architetto – in 2013, he has been working more and more actively in the nautical field. Not only collaborating with various French and Italian design studios and participating in international projects and competitions, but at the same time ‘venting’ his passion for boating on the sea as well, participating in numerous regattas in the Mediterranean.

Alessandro Comuzzi

Returning ashore each time with a few more ingenious ideas to develop, Alessandro then began to ‘cut his teeth’ by also collaborating with important Italian marine companies including Cantiere De Cesari and Cantiere Carlini. Until, in 2021, the right time came to go it alone, founding his own nautical brand, Comuzzi Yachts. A unique project in the Italian sector, which “was born from the desire to offer each client the best possible service,” explains Alessandro himself. “This translates into the definition of the ‘perfect’ project based on the needs expressed, the direct construction of the boat and all its components, and, last but not least, the accompaniment of the client up to after-sales service. The advantage of having a single point of contact is unparalleled.”

FROM HOME TO CONSTRUCTION SITE…

In short, it is about helping passionate boat owners realize their dreams at sea, just as he was able to realize his own. As he tells his story that starts well before the start of his professional adventure in 2013.

“When I was just 16 years old,” he says with some emotion, “I designed and built a catamaran myself ‘at home.’It was challenging and perhaps rare of its kind, but doing it opened up a world to me about design and in particular construction…

And the first big thank you I definitely have to give to my father, who first passed on to me this same passion for the sea and for designing, and to his library that allowed me to get busy on my own. Later then I graduated in architecture and then started a collaboration with a friend to build wooden catamarans.

But the next boat came then in 2011: I built a 9-meter model that was the starting point to get some visibility.” From here, in fact, Alessandro Comuzzi does not stop any longer and becomes an increasingly ‘paid attention’ name in the Italian design sector, which is – it is always worth remembering it… – one of the best known and considered by shipowners all over the world.

“From here also started my constant collaboration with high-level shipyards and I finally also made my first boat with De Cesari, the D950 in 2013. Again with the Cervia shipyard then I made several other Daysailers that allowed me to make a name for myself as a designer and in particular as a reference for wooden constructions.” In 2016 here was the new challenge: to create a boat for an owner with motor disabilities, but that was a boat without nautical limitations , ‘real’ and accessible to everyone regardless.

“”It is called the R30, and its characteristic feature is that it has a spokeless wheel steering, which allows even people with lower limb disabilities to steer the boat with great pleasure. In addition, the boat is perceived as absolutely “normal” and, indeed, beautiful for those with this passion.”

A challenge won by the designer: in fact, the model has won the MYDA (Millennium Yacht Design Award) and honorable mention at the Compasso d’Oro, but more importantly, it has enabled several owners to fulfill their dream of sailing as equals.

HERE ARE THE BOATS OF THE FUTURE

But for the present and the future, Alessandro Comuzzi is already engaged in new and fascinating challenges for his uniqueness as an out-of-the-box designer.”Starting in 2021 with the new reality of Comuzzi Yachts, I have kicked off the creation of the C32 series, thanks to the collaboration with the Zuanelli shipyard: we have already made four models starting with the Custom version and arriving at the Sport and Weekender versions as well.

The latter,” Alessandro explains, “is the version dedicated to those who also wish to take on mini-cruises due to the presence of comfortable interiors.Fans of racing adrenaline will opt for the Sport, which features a flush deck and an uncluttered cockpit.

There is also the possibility of custom building your own boat thanks to the Custom model, which allows you to combine elements from the other two variants or add completely new details – starting from the same “platform.”

The circle has come full circle, and design tailored to the needs of each individual owner remains the main feature that launched Comuzzi Yachts’ unique wisdom to the market.

“In fact, the aspect that really attracts me is to interpret the customer’s requests as best I can and to be able to translate their needs into a concrete project: people who commission a custom boat want to cultivate their dream, and being able to bring this aspect to life is exactly how I make boats.”
