In this episode, we take you to discover the history and news of Barcando, one of the most innovative realities in the nautical world told Antonio Luigi Palermiti, the one who created it.

Boating. History of a nautical ecosystem

Starting from the Barcando base in Capo d’Orlando Marina, you will be just a step away from the Aeolian Islands. Seven volcanic islands in a turquoise sea, each with its own unique soul. From Stromboli, with its active volcano, to the natural pools of Vulcano, to the secret coves of Filicudi and Alicudi, the Aeolian Islands offer a journey through unspoiled nature, history and age-old traditions.

Antonio Luigi Palermiti is a prominent name on the Italian nautical scene, an entrepreneur whose story is inextricably linked to the sea. Founder and CEO of Barcando Srl, a company that has evolved from a small passion to a full-fledged nautical ecosystem, Palermiti has built his career by combining a love of sailing with an innovative entrepreneurial vision. His companies operate on a national and international scale, offering boaters 360-degree services ranging from boat sales and rentals to boat servicing and management. Born in Reggio Calabria, Antonio Luigi Palermiti developed a deep connection with the sea from an early age. At the age of five, in fact, he was already sailing on an Optimist, later moving on to larger dinghies such as the 420, 470 and Laser. This passion, fueled by participation in numerous regattas throughout Italy, has marked his path. The wind, the waves, and the feeling of freedom that the sea conveyed, made him realize that his future would be intertwined with sailing. Despite this strong vocation, his education followed other paths. After earning a bachelor’s degree in economics with a specialization in tourism, Palermiti worked as an agent-representative in the mountain technical goods industry while cultivating another great passion of his: skiing. He later pursued a career as an employment consultant, but the lure of the sea has always remained a constant.

Antonio Luigi Palermiti is founder and CEO of the Barcando brand created in 2014.

The turning point in boating

The turning point came in 2003, when he decided to converge his two souls, combining his passion for the sea with his profession. He founded “Beyond the Blue,” his first charter company, offering cruises to the Aeolian Islands aboard a 34-footer, with an offering that also included scuba diving and trekking, thanks to his skills as a diving instructor. The charter business quickly took over, prompting him to purchase new boats, including one of the first catamarans to sail in Sicily.

Barcando Yachts is also a dealer of Aventura catamarans.

The DNA of Barcando

The year 2014 marked a decisive turning point with the creation of the Barcando brand. This simple and intuitive name immediately encapsulated the vision of a business that wanted to go beyond just chartering. With relentless dedication and tireless work, Palermiti built a true nautical ecosystem, integrating the physical and digital worlds. The online platforms have become a benchmark for the industry, a success that testifies to his determination and ability to anticipate market needs. Barcando ‘s different divisions represent the expansion and diversification of its vision; under the same brand, in fact, coexist Barcando.it, which is a travel agency specializing in nautical charters in every corner of the world and offers a complete ser- vice, from research to booking to insurance coverage. Barcando Charter is the group’s charter company, with an owned and managed fleet and operates in some of Italy’s most attractive destinations-Sicily, Sardinia and Tuscany. Barcando Yachts, on the other hand, is the division dedicated to buying and selling boats, with Italian exclusivity for prestigious brands such as YOT (power catamarans), Aventura (sailing and motor catamarans) and Northman (trawlers and sailboats). Finally, there is Che Crew!, an innovative project that serves as a portal for crews and charter companies, which aims to professionalize and give the right visibility to those working in the nautical sector. Thanks to this strategy, Barcandonow counts on a team of 12 employees and collaborators, with operating offices in strategic points such as Rome (Ostia), Reggio Calabria and Capo d’Orlando, as well as numerous international partnerships. Antonio Luigi Palermiti ‘s philosophy is based on quality, and this is reflected in a fleet that is always up-to-date and constantly maintained, a personalized service that accompanies the client at every stage, and a strong emphasis on staff training. Its vision combines a passion for the sea with technological innovation, demonstrating that tradition and modernity can coexist harmoniously. The target clientele is diverse, ranging from young people to adults with high disposable income. Palermiti notes that many of its aficionados, after experiencing a boating vacation, end up becoming owners and entrust Barcando with the management of their boats.

Sardinia is one of the top destinations chosen by Barcando Charter clients.

Barcando. Looking to the future

Looking to the future, he also has no doubts: for him, the sea is not just a business, but a way of life and a symbol of freedom. His ambition is to see Barcando grow internationally, while holding firm to its original soul of simplicity and genuine passion. His commitment also extends to the importance of generating an economic spin-off in the territories where he operates, helping to create jobs, professionalism and local development. In one of his reflections, Palermiti pointed out how the advent of catamarans has transformed chartering, making travel more comfortable, often at the expense of the authentic sailing experience. His wish is for people to rediscover the essence of the sea: the wind, the waves, the stars, the sunsets, and the simplicity of sharing.
