Italia Yachts 16.98 (17 m): the Mediterranean boat… designed for the Ocean

Italia Yachts, an Apulian shipyard based in Fano (PU), presents the new 16.98; it joins the Bellissima line, a range of boats designed by the shipyard for long cruises and combining elegance and performance.

A boat designed for cruising

IY 16.98 is to be considered a bluewater in its own right (click here to know what is meant by bluewater), from its genesis; in fact, this boat was designed for an American owner who will make the crossing by participating in the next ARC and will continue sailing on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. The stern has a practical garage, with a folding sideboard that not only facilitates the launching of the tender but also serves as a bathing beach.

On board, in the same area, there are two rudder wheels to make the passage to the cockpit easy, which, however, is interrupted by the mainsail stringer: this is certainly a deliberate decision for performance, but it reduces comfort on board because of the trolley rail to be climbed over. The rest of the cockpit is occupied by the two benches that surround the folding table: a classic solution that does not upset the layout of this living area. The deck, designed by Cossutti Yacht Design, continues towards the bow with two easy walkways clear of equipment, typical of boats to be experienced in any sea situation; at the end of the bow there is a dolphin trap (a trademark of Italia Yachts boats), which also allows for rigging of load-bearing and “pushed” headsails.

What it looks like

Below deck, there are 3 cabins on the IY 16.98 with as many bathrooms, and there is also a dedicated crew area in the bow. The tones used are light, to give brightness to the environment, which is also accentuated by the natural light that filters through the two man-holes on the deckhouse and the windows on the bulwarks. Special attention has also been paid to artificial light, with LEDs placed ad hoc to recreate as welcoming an environment as possible. The lines of the hull come from the pencil of Matteo Polli, who reinterpreted the classic lines, updating them to the latest trends in design; speaking of construction technique, however, the hull and deck enjoy the advantages of vacuum resin infusion lamination, based on a sandwich structure with multi-axial glass skins impregnated with vinylester resin for maximum weight savings and great structural rigidity.
