The 2025 52 Super Series season comes to a close: here’s how it went in Porto Cervo

The 52 Super Series-Porto Cervo-Range Rover Sailing Week, which was held Sept. 22-27 in Porto Cervo, in the waters in front of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and which closed the club’s 2025 sports season, has come to an end.
The victory went to the American crew of Sled, led by owner Takashi Okura and Italian Checco Bruni in the role of tactician, who with 27 points led the standings ahead of Phoenix (33 points, owner T. Plattner) and Alegre (38 points, owner A. Soriano and strategist Pietro Sibello). “Winning in Porto Cervo always has a special flavor,” said Checco Bruni. “We have always had excellent wind conditions with the exception of today and finished the season in second place behind the championship winner, we are overjoyed.”
The class will return to the water June 15-20, 2026, for the Rolex TP52 World Championship Porto Cervo 2026, which will count as a leg of the championship.
Circuit winners
The Sardinian leg, in fact, is part of the 52 Super Series Championship, created in 2011 and dominated for 7 times by the winners of this edition as well: the American Magic Quantum Racing team, of Doug DeVos with Terry Hutchinson at tactician who, from next year, will no longer take part in the circuit.
Second place for Sled, winner in Porto Cervo, and third place for Jean-Luc Petithuguenin’s French team Paprec with Loick Peyron as tactician.
Andrea Lacorte’s Alkedo of Italy very well.
In fourth place overall for the season was the only Italian team in the race, that of Andrea Lacorte’s Alkedo powered by Vitamina Sailing (bearer of the Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara di Pisa with the support of sponsor Cetilar), winner of the classification reserved for owner-drivers (i.e., owner-helmsmen).
Along with him is a noteworthy crew featuring renowned New Zealand tactician Cameron Appleton-with Emirates Team New Zealand in the victorious defense of the 2000 America’s Cup and winner of 10 World Championship titles-and strategist Alvaro Marinho, a Portuguese sailing star with four career Olympic appearances.
The boat named after an ancient Roman imperial vessel from the 1st century AD, discovered in Pisa in ’98 during an excavation and exhibited at the Museum of Ancient Ships, at the Arsenali medicei, has been the protagonist of an exciting season, expertly captained by helmsman Andrea Lacorte, who, after achieving important successes in past years in classes such as the Melges 32 or the M32 catamaran, immediately made his mark also in a top-level context such as the 52 Super Series circuit.

Congratulations to Takashi Okura for his victory in Porto Cervo and to Doug DeVos for winning the 2025 title. Thanks to all thirteen teams present at this final stop, it was an honor for YCCS to conclude its sporting season with the 52 Super Series.”
