The name AC72 stands for Advanced Catamaran, but perhaps it is no coincidence that it also recalls the iconic AC72s that in 2013 enlivened the waters of San Francisco Bay during the 34th America’s Cup: an implicit homage to the technological innovation and extreme performance that now define this all-new all-Italian luxury super catamaran. Advanced Yachts – an Italian shipyard founded fourteen years ago by Antonella Di Leo and Marco Tursini – has made custom construction and technical excellence its hallmark, first in monohulls and now also in multihulls. Here’s what we know so far about its new 22-meter super catamaran.

AC72 is the custom-made maxi-catamaran made in Italy

The AC72 represents the perfect synthesis of luxury, craftsmanship and high performance Made in Italy. It is a maxi-catamaran that embodies elegance, refinement and innovation, which has always been the stylistic hallmark of Advanced Yachts’ signature boats. Made in Italy, for the shipyard, is not just a label, but a declaration of intent: to offer the best sailing boat in its category. The AC72 was born to explore the Mediterranean and beyond, thanks to its shallow draft that allows it to reach even shallow waters, while offering ample living space on board as well as performance and lightness in materials worthy of a racing yacht.

Each AC72 is a semi-custom yacht, designed to reflect the owner’s taste and lifestyle. You can choose from three different layouts and three different styles, or work together with the in-house design team-or your own architect-to create a unique vessel, thought out down to the smallest detail. Build quality is guaranteed by the choice of lightweight, high-performance materials and workmanship that focuses on durability and reliability over time.

The AC72’s naval architecture was designed by the American firm Reichel/Pugh, a world benchmark for high-performance racing boats. Every aspect was optimized for handling, responsiveness, and weight reduction, with a glass/foam/epoxy sandwich structure, carbon reinforcements in areas subjected to the greatest load, and an all-carbon deckhouse.

What it’s like on board

As for the interiors, these are spacious and carefully designed, offering unparalleled comfort thanks to fine materials and optimized layouts. Natural light permeates every room thanks to carefully designed spaces, including 360-degree views from the salon.

The AC72 boasts three large outdoor spaces: a flybridge with surprising dimensions for a catamaran of this length, a stern beach with hydraulic platform that occupies the entire width of the yacht (10 meters), and finally, at the bow there is a comfortable cockpit that can be connected directly to the interior salon thanks to a special “Advanced Front Door,” an innovative door that opens upward, an alternative to the classic pantograph solution.

Innovation and functionality find expression in technical solutions such as movable centerboards, which allow the draught to be varied for easy access to isolated bays without compromising sailing speed. The wheelhouse system, derived from the world’s sturdiest bluewater tour boats, allows the yacht to be steered from a protected position next to the chart table.

Finally, the propulsion is hybrid, combining combustion engine and electric with the ability to recover energy while sailing.
