We are now about 1 year away from seeing in the water the first “baby” from the German shipyard Y Yachts, which specializes in building custom and semi-custom blue water-style superyachts. She will be called Y6 and will bring some interesting new features to the yard’s range; she won’t change the philosophy from a luxury cruiser designed to sail around the world, but there will be a few new aesthetic elements and above all she will be an even more driven boat on the easy sailing front.
Y6 – Easy sailing philosophy

“Our new Y6 was developed in direct response to customers who wanted to enjoy the freedom of solo sailing without sacrificing the luxury of a true superyacht,” explains Sales Director Tijl Hetterschijt.
Constructed of epoxy resin and carbon, the nearly 20-meter-long Y6 will also have some attention to final displacement to ensure good sailing performance even in light wind conditions. For those seeking greater sustainability, an electric motor version will also be available. Conceptually, the Y6 is designed as an elegant world cruiser, with a cockpit layout that allows the helmsman to control the yacht in complete autonomy.

“The Y6 will be exceptionally intuitive to sail,” says YYachts founder Michael Schmidt. “And because owners generally sail without professional crew, we have further enhanced our after-sales support. Thanks to our Y on Watch system, owners are virtually in direct contact with our technicians, ensuring fast and efficient assistance whenever they need it.”
From an aesthetic point of view, the most visible novelties will be for the first time a fairly sharp edge in the stern area, and a “scimitar,” curved bow, two elements that will characterize the look of the boat unmistakably.
Below deck there will be several layout options to choose from to meet the different needs of owners: it will be possible to configure Y6 with three or four cabins, and there are also various configurations for the master cabin; in its class, Y6 has the highest degree of customization possible.
Danish designer David Thulstrup and his team are responsible for the design. Thulstrup, an internationally renowned penciler, pursues a refined and holistic approach, combining his Scandinavian origins with a modern design language.
