The weekend between May 30 and June 1 marks the return to the sea with the VELA Cup Puglia, the Salento leg of Italy’s most participated circuit, ready to welcome sailors of all levels to the Marina di Brindisi. The appointment is not to be missed: on Saturday, May 31, after the morning briefing, the fleet will take to the water for the coastal sailing race of about 13 miles, on a course that touches some of the most fascinating areas of the Brindisi coastline, from Punta Penne to the Torre Guaceto Marine Protected Area.
Signing up is very easy: the fee starts at only 30 euros for boats up to 10 meters and includes mooring, gadgets, prizes and the chance to experience a unique event. Whether you are an experienced racer or a first-time sailor, the VELA Cup Puglia is waiting for you!
The route of the VELA Cup Puglia 2025
The starting line of the VELA Cup Puglia will be positioned north of the Puntariso Dam, outside the port of Brindisi. The first destination is the buoy near the Punta Penne-Punta del Serrone Area of Natural and Historical Interest. From there, a nice ride along the coast to the second buoy, which is located not far from theTorre Guaceto Marine Protected Area. Then you tack and head back to the starting line. Total: about 13 miles of fun!

The boats already registered for the VELA Cup Puglia
Among the entries already confirmed are both the champions of past editions, such as Andrea Milizia’s Farr 39 Flash andGiorgio Travaini’s Hanse 411 Granbazza, and many racing, cruising and small boat crews, confirming the spirit of the event: all boats can participate, no FIV membership is needed for the crew and no tonnage certificate is needed.
Cruisers include Davide Piazzo’s Bavaria 38 Match Excellent, Roberto De Milito’s Dufour 32 Classic Idee Fixe, Giuseppe Bottacci’sOceanis Clipper 323 Cathur One, and Paolo Ciacci’s Bavaria C40 Sumafe 2. But there are also the “little ones,” such as Paolo Perugino’s Platu 25 Gallo Cedrone.
There is room for everyone here, thanks in part to the new secret fee system that really puts every crew on an equal footing. The Cruising Boat (white sails) and Sport Boat categories allow each owner to choose their own dimension of fun and competition, while Classic Boats over 25 years old will have a dedicated ranking.
There’s free mooring and the June 2 bridge for a mini-vacation
For those who want to take advantage of the June 2 bridge to plan a mini-vacation, the area offers pristine beaches, the Torre Guaceto reserve, the archaeological site of Egnatia and all the charm of the Brindisi coastline. And at the Marina di Brindisi there is a free night’s mooring for all registered crews.

Torre Guaceto is home to a vast protected area encompassing 2,200 hectares of sea and 1,100 hectares of land, a true natural paradise along the Brindisi coast. This reserve represents an oasis of biodiversity, where numerous species of birds and fish can be observed, as well as lush posidonia meadows that enrich the seabed. The undisputed symbol of the area is the historic Aragonese tower that dominates the landscape, while offshore are the striking islets of Razza and Foglia d’Ulivo (info: 0831 989976).
Continuing north along the Apulian coast is Egnatia, a fascinating archaeological site directly overlooking the sea. Here, a low cliff – also ideal for a boat stop in favorable weather conditions – guards the ancient Roman acropolis, whose origins date back as far as the 15th century B.C., at the height of the Bronze Age. Later inhabited by the Messapians from the 9th century BC, Egnatia then became an important Roman trading center (info: 080 4829056).
A historic reference point for Salento boating and an essential stop on the VELA Cup circuit, the Marina di Brindisi welcomes crews arriving from outside the area with open arms, offering a free night’s mooring to all boats registered for the event (subject to availability). “Brindisi continues to strengthen its international vocation,” emphasizes Claudio Gorelli, president of the Marina di Brindisi, “and confirms itself as one of the most popular destinations for yachting, both in Italy and abroad.”
