The VELA Cup Procida 2025 is less than two weeks away, and the island is already ready to transform itself into the heart of the final big event of the sailing summer: from September 26 to 28, with a regatta on Saturday, September 27, the Marina di Procida will currently welcome more than 60 registered boats (but we aim to exceed last year’s 70 entries) from all over the Gulf of Naples and even from other regions, a sign of steadily growing participation and contagious enthusiasm among sailors and enthusiasts.

Program and hospitality

The Marina di Procida will host the boats registered for the VELA Cup Procida and the entire “ashore” part of the weekend’s rich program

As per tradition, the Procida Marina will offer free mooring for the nights of Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27 to all participants (subject to availability), with additional discounts on subsequent nights and special offers for those who decide to extend their stay. The regatta/racing on Saturday, Sept. 27, is open to all types of boats-from dinghies to classics, from racers to cruising hulls-with no requirement for certificates or memberships. The format includes two modes of participation: “Cruising Boat” (ideal for family & friends crews, mainsail and jib only) and “Sport Boat” (for those who want to compete with all available sails: spinnaker, gennaker, code 0…).

  • Friday, Sept. 26 boats arriving from outside the area will have the whole day to reach the Marina di Procida, ready to welcome them by hosting them free of charge for two nights (until Sunday, September 28). Just this year, by the way, the Marina di Procida turns 20 years old: even during the VELA Cup there will be spaces and opportunities to celebrate this important anniversary together!
  • Saturday, Sept. 27 in the morning, after the briefing, the regatta/sailing “for everyone” will be staged : open to all types of boats, from dinghies to classics, from racers to cruising hulls – with no obligation for certificates or memberships – perfect both for those who want to challenge the stopwatch and for those who prefer to enjoy the magic of the Gulf of Naples more in relaxation.
  • In the afternoon, again in the Marina di Procida spaces, a dinner-aperitif will be set up for all crews, with beer and fried anchovies for those who participated in the morning regatta. The program then includes the big VELA Cup Procida prize-giving party (where almost everyone wins), followed by music until midnight!
  • Sunday, Sept. 28 there will be a breakfast for all crews to say goodbye one last time before departing (for those coming from outside the area) and sailing home.

The 60 boats registered

Already more than 60 boats have registered for the VELA Cup Procida 2025, a number that testifies to the enthusiasm and strength of this regatta that grows year by year. Thanks to the great response from owners and crews, we aim with determination to surpass the record of 70 boats set last year!!! In the next few lines we introduce you to some of the boats and crews starring in this edition.

The smallest in the fleet, of all the boats entered, is currently Andrea Carannante’s Stag 24 “Mowgli,” with its 7.10 m…

…and vice versa, the largest is theY8 “Calabash” by Michael Schmidt (founder of Hanse Shipyard and now owner of YYachts) at 23.80 meters in length.

Comet 38S
Comet 38S “Loucura 3”

Among the fiercest will certainly be Frederic Roncone’s Comet 38S “Loucura 3” (pictured above), which will have to contend with equally fierce crews, such as that of First 31. 7 “Bagheera” of Luigi Russo, who writes us “Bagheera’s helmsman Pierluigi Russo, a student of the sailing school of the LNI section of Bacoli, turned 12 last December and together with the owner, grandfather Luigi, just 73 years old, represent the future and the generational past of sailing lovers.”

So here they are together on board in the photo above, but these are just some of the many beautiful stories of the VELA Cup! Beautiful stories and beautiful boats, such as the Latin-sailed go zzo Janara, from the words of her owner Giuseppe Centomani “a classic Flegrean Latin-sailed gozzo, declared intangible cultural heritage of the Campania Region, twinned with the Amerigo Vespucci, whose livery she reproduces, winner of the Voiles Latine de Saint Tropez 2024 days, protagonist of the annual event “Operation Quandel,” with A/R Monte di Procida-Gaeta sailing.” Warning: there will also be a Genoese leudo on the water!

Route and atmosphere

The 10-mile course will start in front of the D’Avalos Palace, continue to Marina di Corricella, coast the island to Punta Serra and end again in front of the D’Avalos Palace. Procida offers perfect weather and authentic scenery in late September, without the summer crowds and with the opportunity to experience the island under the banner of sailing, seafaring culture and local traditions, culminating with the celebrations of the patron saint St. Michael, for those who can stay longer, on Monday, September 29.

Registration and news

To register your boat, simply fill out the form found on the official VELA Cup website. Once you arrive at Marina di Procida you will come to pick up the numbers to be affixed to the bow during the regatta and the rich gift bag with gadgets from the VELA Cup partners, one of the many benefits for those who register in addition to:

  • Prizes awarded by merit and raffle among all participants thanks to event partners.
  • Awarding of prizes to the top three boats in each class (by length and category: Cruising Boat and Sport Boat) and Classic Boats with dedicated ranking (and free participation if registered with the Registry).
  • Special awards for the most elegant boat (Elegant Award) and Gentlemen’s Award.
  • Awards also go to the last boat to finish and the overall Leg Winner.
  • Rich refreshments ashore for all crews, beer and fried fish stew at the end of the regatta.

The 2025 edition of the VELA Cup Procida introduces a new “secret” compensation system to ensure a truly fair competition among all the boats: the rankings are then compiled in compensated time based on the boats’ actual arrival times at the starting line.

Another novelty: those who have a Classic Boat registered with the Official Registry participate for free in the regatta, which confirms its “open” nature: registering is easy, all you need is a boat, a crew(you can look for one here if you don’t have one) and passion.

The VELA Cup Procida also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Marina di Procida, adding another reason for celebration to the event.

Get your boat ready: Procida awaits you Sept. 26-28 for the most Mediterranean sailing festival of the year, with already more than 60 boats registered and a sea of excitement coming your way.
