Only 15 days to go until the regatta that closes the VELA Cup 2025 season: from October 3 to 5, Capo d’Orlando will gather the more than 30 registered boats for the last event of the circuit! With the regatta scheduled for Saturday, October 4, Sicily is back in the spotlight, offering the chance to experience the autumn sea (with still mild, if not warm weather), crystal-clear waters and the magic of a location directly overlooking the Aeolian Islands.

Capo d’Orlando Marina is on the northeastern coast of Sicily
and overlooks the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, which can be reached by
only 14 miles of navigation. Behind, however, lies the
Nebrodi Park, the largest protected natural area in
Sicily, which, with its characteristic villages and hilly
landscapes, is a favorite destination for nature excursions.

The modern and easily accessible Capo d’Orlando Marina provides a special welcome: for all entrants, a full week’s free mooring and an additional 7 days discounted by 25 percent, ideal for those who want to turn the regatta occasion into a real vacation, and perhaps plan a cruise to the nearby Aeolian Islands. Participation is open to any sailboat of at least 3 meters in length with no need for tonnage certificates or FIV membership, thanks to the inclusive spirit that distinguishes the VELA Cup circuit.

Why register for the regatta

As per tradition, the regatta will see divided into the categories Sport Boat (for those who like performance and want to use all sails, so also gennaker, spinnaker, code 0…) and Cruising Boat (for those who are in reduced formation and want to participate using only mainsail and jib). The rankings are then worked out using the ACSI Sailing Cup Rating, a formula that ensures that all participants truly compete on a level playing field.

In addition, there is a special ranking for Classic Boats(with free entry for those registered in the Official Register), rich gift bag to all crews with gadgets offered by our partners, the official VELA Cup T-shirt and a copy of the Journal of Sailing). After the regatta, in the afternoon during the big prize-giving party, not only the boats that won on the water are awarded on the stage: thanks to the many raffle prizes offered by the circuit partners. And after the awards ceremony refreshments with food and drinks for all crews!

The route of the regatta

The VELA Cup Sicilia starts in front of Capo d’Orlando Marina, first buoy off Capo d’Orlando and second buoy at the foot of Monte della Madonna. It continues ahead of the coast with buoy at Brolo Rock, last buoy off Capo d’Orlando and finish line in front of Capo d’Orlando Marina. Second reserve option depending on wind direction.

Among the registered boats there are many “big boats” such as theHanse 311“Catina4” of owner Gabriele Spaggiari, who wrote to us on the registration form “We are part of the NonSoloVela ASD club of Reggio Emilia. 30 years of history without overlooking the sea. We are a group of enthusiasts whose sole purpose has always been to convey a passion for the sea. We organize cruises, regattas and introductory sailing courses.” It will participate in the Sport Boat category along with boats that are also very different from each other, such as theElan 40 “Obelix” of Leone Calabrò, one of the most assiduous aficionados of the VELA Cup in Capo d’Orlando, along with many others such as the Dufour 44P“Leduelune” of Fulvio Russo that you see, together with the very elegant crew, in the photo below.
