The month of June for offshore sailing is a month circled in red on the calendar, as several highlight regattas take place in the Mediterranean, and one of them is undoubtedly the Italian Yacht Club’s Loro Piana Giraglia, which is about to kick off from Saint Troprez for its 72nd edition .
Starting Saturday, June 7 , the Loro Piana Giraglia 2o25calendar opens , with the formula inaugurated last season featuring four days of coastal racing in Saint Tropez. The usual 240-mile offshore race will start at noon on June 11 on the Saint Tropez, Giraglia, Genoa course.
The superboats enrolled
There are 139 boats registered for the entire event, those competing in both the coastal and the long race for the combined, the overall winner of the offshore race is awarded from the IRC ranking, ORC category is also awarded.

The flagship of the fleet is Federico Borromeo’s SWS 102 Almagores II, followed by several 100-foot yachts, including Scallywag, Magic Carpet E, Arca SGR, V, Galateia, and several 80-footers, such as Pier Luigi Loro Piana’s My Song, Alessandro and Rinaldo Del Bono’s Capricorno, Nice, and the 72-footers Jethou, Northstar, and Proteus, as well as the foiler FlyingNikka.

Gaia Pizzini’s Figaro 1 Vox Sea closes the fleet, at only 9.14 meters-the smallest boat among the entries.
Loro Piana & the Giraglia
The title sponsor of Giraglia 2025 is the maison Loro Piana. The pairing is as coherent as can be. Starting with the participation of the 80-footer My Song owned by Pier Luigi Loro Piana, vice-president of the maison, which participates in the races. To continue with the Loro Piana Giraglia Lounge, an outdoor terrace created directly on the main pier of the charming port of Saint Tropez, where every day from June 7 to June 11 hundreds of sailors participating in the four inshore regattas and the legendary 241-mile offshore offshore race that starts at noon on June 11 gather.
The Race Village is furnished with furniture from the Loro Piana Interiors collection, and you can admire at the entrance the Loro Piana Giraglia Defender awarded to the winners of the regattas along with the iconic Loro Piana Giraglia Cup, the historic silver trophy destined for the winner of the offshore race in the largest regatta.
History of the Giraglia
The first edition took place in 1953 on the Cannes-La Giraglia-San Remo course. The following year the start and finish ports were reversed, but the Giraglia rock remained the fixed point-it would soon become one of the icons of world yachting. The offshore race is a regatta that, despite having “only” 241 miles, can hold many surprises and prove very challenging.
In fact, in June it is easy to be able to encounter the Mistral, which makes the descent to Corsica rather sizzling, but also contesting the Giraglia in becalmed weather makes it as technically challenging and difficult as ever. The arrival in Genoa is then always a puzzle of no easy resolution, and can often be decisive for the fate of the ranking, both in real time and on handicap.
It is no coincidence that it still remains a fixture for so many maxi yachts, and for the best European and non-European sailboats competing in offshore rating.
