The Italian ORC championship, valid as the Campionato Assoluto Vela d’Altura, has begun in Capo d’Orlando, Sicily, in fine weather and light breezes. There are 32 boats vying for the Italian sailing championships, which will be awarded over a four-day racing program.
On the opening day of the Italian ORC Championship 3 races were completed, with winds from 8 to 12 knots, nothing done instead on the second day where the wind never stabilized acceptably as intensity and direction and the Race Committee after several hours of waiting decided for a nothing done.
Italian ORC Championship – The provisional rankings

Three trials we said, on a very busy debut day where the committee took advantage of the thermal breeze that materialized on the race course.
The situation in the standings after 3 races is one of great balance. Leading the way in Group 1 is the very strong Sugar 3, Ott Kikkas’ Italy 11.98, an Estonian boat that competes in the Open championship standings. With a score of 1-2-2 Sugar is leading with 5 points, ahead of Nicola De Gemmis’ Swan 42 Morgan at 7 points, closing the provisional podium is Ermanno and Angelo Galeati’s Grand Soleil 43 R Reve de Vie.
In Group 2 of the smaller boats, the balance is even greater. Paired with 7.5 points are Concetto Costa’s First 35 Squalo Bianco and Saverio Trotta’s X-35 Trottolina; provisional third place, but detached by just half a point, for Nicola Vescia’s Italia 998 Unpopergioco.
