On Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, three years after the last edition of the legendary caprerina leg of the VELA Cup, we will land in the heart of
La Maddalena
, for a weekend of sailing and lots of fun. Italy’s most fun regatta runs through the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park, the Caribbean of the Mediterranean. Sign up now, mooring and admission to the Park is free, and in addition to participating in a wonderful regatta (with a dock party on Saturday night), you could win one of several raffle prizes.

The secret formula of the VELA Cup La Maddalena

Take an island with one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a crossroads of peoples, cultures and people who have marked the history of our country, set in a namesake archipelago that we could call the Caribbean of the Mediterranean, a true sailing paradise, add to that a leg of Italy’s most entertaining regatta circuit and there you have discovered the secret formula of the SAIL Cup La Maddalena.

“Until now for more than 30 years we have been the race course of the most important international regattas, today we are doing it as protagonists and hosts” with these words the Councillor for Tourism and Culture of the Municipality of La Maddalena, Gian Vincenzo Belli, tells us about the commitment of institutions to the sailing world. A world, that of sailing and sailors, which La Maddalena has always embraced, hosting on the Island of Caprera the most famous Sailing Center in Italy, and which, since last year, with the arrival of the Giro d’Italia a Vela, it also wants to bring to the village.

In the heart of La Maddalena

Heart of the VELA Cup La Maddalena is the new XXIII February square, dedicated to Domenico Leoni, known as Millelire, the first gold medalist for military valor in the Italian armed forces for the defense of the archipelago from the attack on February 23, 1793, by the fleet of the French Republic, in which the young and future Emperor of France Napoleon Bonaparte was included, with the rank of lieutenant. Competitors’ boats will be housed for free throughout the weekend in the ports of Cala Gavetta and Cala Balbiano.

The program

From 6 p.m. on Friday, June 23, it will be possible to finalize registration at the VELA Cup Point in the Tourist Office Via XX Settembre. On Saturday morning, a technical briefing will be held at 9:30 a.m. and, having cast off the moorings, at 11 a.m. everyone will go out to sea for the start of the VELA Cup La Maddalena, organized by the Italian Naval League – Sect. La Maddalena. The route is coastal, affordable to all, and lasting up to four hours. In the evening, from 7 p.m., the rankings are revealed and the winners are awarded. Followed by a big party with food and music, including international covers and in Magdalenese dialect (a mix of Corsican and Genoese languages), for all.
