Mini Transat: the battle in the Trade Wind, Luca Rosetti is there

The second leg of the Mini Transat, which will end in Saint François in the Caribbean, has started from Santa Cruz de la Palma. There are three Italians in the race, all in the Series category: Luca Rosetti, Francesco Farci and Alessandro Torresani. In the first stage, the results did not entirely smile on our people: Luca Rosetti ninth, Francesco Farci is 27th, Alessandro Torresani 30th. In this second one, however, the situation is different.
Mini Transat – how the second leg is going
Among the Series the special watcher was Belgian Michael Gendebien, winner of leg1, but immediately in trouble in this second one and detached by 60 miles. Leading the provisional ranking is Hugues de Premare, who is reaping the benefits of a southern route, with Luca Rosetti in provisional third with a more northerly strategy.
The Italian has also been in the lead several times in these early stages of the second leg, showing good speed and precise tacking, to be evaluated now on his northern course compared to the southern group. Also doing well was Alessandro Torresani, 13th at 60 miles from the leader, with a much better performance than on the first leg.
Francesco Farci, on the other hand, is in 40th position, and he is suffering from the characteristics of his Ginto, a boat that in strong winds and stern waves becomes quite difficult to steer and does not have the same performance as the more modern Series.
Among the Prototypes, Uruguayan Federico Waksman is leading, with the winner of the first stage, Spaniard Carlos Manera Pascual, currently trailing by nearly 100 miles.
Gaps should always be monitored because the overall victory of the Mini Transat will be awarded on the sum of the times of the two stages.
