In its history, the Hallberg Rassy shipyard had never built a boat this large, the HR 69 is in fact the new flagship of the iconic Swedish brand and we went to see it up close at BOOT in Düsseldorf. The Hallberg Rassy 69 is a boat that carries with it the history and tradition of the shipyard, hence the choice of the central cockpit solution, with a level of construction and attention to detail that reflects the Hallberg philosophy in every way. A 69-footer made to be virtually indestructible, with a double crash box in the bow, handcrafted interiors from solid wood, and a hull designed to be seaworthy but also to provide good sailing qualities especially when wind and sea conditions get tough. We were aboard the Hallberg Rassy 69 to glean all its secrets and touch on why those from the Swedish yard are legendary boats.
Hallberg Rassy 69 – The VIDEO
Elegance first
The volumes, both fore and aft are contained, the aft edge is barely noticeable. Very elegant the leapfrog that rises slightly toward the bow by extendinginto the structural bowsprit, sobering the design along the broadside of four rectangular windows. The boat is made under the banner of maximum structural strength. The hull is solid laminate for the immersed part, sandwich with Divinycell core for the dead work.
Rugged, for sailing anywhere
The joints with the bulkheads are with faceting on both sides, the same goes for the union with the deck which does not involve “holes” with screws or through-bolts. The gelcoat is isophthalic, the first layers are vinylester resin, and an internal structural spider provides stiffness. Unidirectional fiber reinforcements were made on the highest load points.
