The marriage between Ambrogio Beccaria and Mapei, as the main sponsor for the Milanese sailor’s next sporting challenges, is now imminent. At the beginning of April it will be made public official, and from that time Beccaria’s campaign in Imoca 60 will start, but in reality Allagrande’s team has already been at work for a while. Mapei will take Pirelli ‘s place as main sponsor, the brand that accompanied Beccaria in the Class 40 cycle as main support has decided not to continue, it is not yet known whether Pirelli will have a stake in the minor, and in this regard the future with Luna Rossa does not seem 100 percent certain either.
Beccaria, Imoca new or used boat?
The big question regarding Beccaria’s future plans, certain that he will start with a campaign in Imoca 60, at this point is: what will the boat be? Newly built or a used one? Ambrogio Beccaria is not a skipper who has been content simply to participate in his career, if it will not be new boat we expect a used boat of the latest generation, perhaps one of those that led the last Vendée Globe in the top positions or at any rate a boat that belongs to one of the two most recent generations of Imoca 60s.
Certainly, the Imoca market in the weeks after the arrival of the first Vendée Globe competitors was very active, with the possibility that some of the prized pieces of the French collection, such as Macif or Arkea Paprec, ended up on the market. Could a boat that is not new aspire to win in the upcoming seasons in the Imoca Class? If it is part of the latest generation, while waiting for the next one to come out, it is very likely that it could be very competitive, also with a view to Vendée Globe 2028.
