We are one month away from the June 2 bridge weekend, the one that starts on Friday, May 30, which will also be a real celebration of sailing. Yes, because on the same late spring weekend, the VELA Cup Puglia 2025 will be staged – on Saturday, May 31. This is the third leg of the regatta-sailing circuit organized again this year by the Giornale della Vela, which returns to the magical waters of Salento, making its base at the innovative and well-organized Marina di Brindisi marina.
Thus, a three-day festive sailing event that anticipates another famous regatta, the historic Brindisi-Corfu, by a week returns to Apulia again for 2025. But it is already a truly splendid course that of VELA Cup Puglia 2025, which takes participants to sail off the prestigious Brindisi beaches of Punta Penne and Torre Testa, in the waters of Salento, as well as in front of the pristine nature oasis of Torre Guaceto.

VELA Cup Puglia 2025: so many people have already registered!
Confirming this great desire to put themselves at the helm in Salento again this year, there are many boats that have already registered for the regatta with one month to go and will try to beat Andrea Milizia’s Farr 39 Flash, winner of the last two editions in the “Sport Boat” category, and Giorgio Travaini’sHanse 411 Granbazza, last year’s “Leg Winner.” Among them, confirming the “for all” spirit of the VELA Cup, many cruisers, such as Davide Piazzo’s Bavaria 38 Match Excellent, Roberto De Milito’s Dufour 32 Classic Idee Fixe, Giuseppe Bottacci’sOceanis Clipper 323 Cathur One and Paolo Ciacci’s Bavaria C40 Sumafe 2. But there are also the “little ones,” such as Paolo Perugino’s Platu 25 Gallo Cedrone.
Marina di Brindisi, exceptional hub for tourism and regattas
A well-established partner of the Salento regatta and the VELA Cup circuit, the Brindisi Marina offers free moorings to boats registered for the event that come from outside the area. “Brindisi continues on its path of internationalization,” says Marina di Brindisi President Claudio Gorelli, “and becomes more and more a reference point for national and international yachting.

This is because we have long and successfully worked to activate an increasingly important flow of recreational tourism by allowing boats to take advantage of the many services the Marina offers. A state-of-the-art facility that, appreciated even abroad, has obtained the prestigious recognition of “The Five Anchors” for the quality of services offered. More and more, also thanks to the thrust of strategic events such as the VELA Cup Puglia, Brindisi will have to be, therefore, no longer a transfer stop to other destinations, but a tourist destination spearhead as it is of a very important territory.”
VELA Cup Puglia, a vacation not to be missed
And since Tuesday, June 2 is another extra day of vacation for everyone (for Republic Day) and the Marina di Brindisi is offering – in addition to a free night – other nights at a discounted rate to all sailors, what better excuse to stay and better discover this wonderful tourist destination? A city with long and famous nautical traditions, Brindisi is also a destination that knows how to fascinate all kinds of sailing travelers with its natural harbor and its ancient beauty: inhabited in ancient times by the Messapi, who gave it its name from “brunda,” meaning “deer head,” precisely because of the spectacular conformation of the harbor, the city has always been seafaring in character.
Worth seeing in its beautiful historic center, which is easily circumnavigated on foot, are the Gothic Church of St. Paul from 1322, the 13th-century Church and Crypt of Santa Lucina, the ancient Colonne del Porto, and the two Castles: the Alfonsino, on the island of Sant’Andrea, and the Swabian. But the discoveries of the beauties of Brindisi’s Salento then continue at sea, during the sailing trip: from the beautiful, sandy beaches of the coast to the magnificent Torre Guaceto Reserve, which also serves as a privileged natural setting for part of the sailing trip. Spanning 2,200 hectares at sea and 1,100 hectares on land, it is a wild, green lung that opens onto the Brindisi coastline, hosting a large number of bird and fish species, as well as posidonia meadows. A symbol of the area is the Aragonese tower of the same name, while small islands called the Razza and Foglia d’Ulivo stand out on the sea (info for visits and permits: tel. 0831 989976).
VELA Cup Puglia at the Marina di Brindisi, prizes for (almost) everyone!
In Salento, as in all the regattas of the VELA Cup circuit, the doors are open as always to all sailors: in fact, the regatta-sailing events are also beloved because as always any type of boat from 3 meters in length overall can participate; and no specific requirements other than those for recreational sailing are required. The VELA Cup is open to everyone, any type of boat and crew.
From dinghies to bluewater, from family crewed cruising boats to more “pulled” boats, from Classic Boats to full-carbon racers: with one “diktat.” That of having fun and enjoying the surrounding beauty. Those who have already participated in a VELA Cup know that one of the ingredients that makes each leg unique is the Saturday prize-giving, held in the afternoon after the conclusion of the race at the Marina of Porto Rafael. With more than 50 prizes awarded in every single leg, (almost) everyone wins at the VELA Cup: and not just those who went the hardest at sea. There are plenty of raffle prizes raffled off by our partners. Then music, drinks, and chill time for everyone: to tell each other about their experience at sea, while photos of the regatta scroll on the big screen.
