Mediterranean ORC Championship, good first (with victory) for Wallyrocket 51

Five races brought home despite capricious wind conditions, so goes the ORC Championship in the Mediterranean in the Inshore part (pending the Regatta of the Three Gulfs for the combined standings), also valid as the National Low and Middle Tyrrhenian.

It was a regatta that offered many points of interest, starting with the fleet, which was not large (30 boats) but of the highest technical level, with many big names in Italian offshore racing. There was great curiosity to see Giovanni Lombardi Stronati’s new Wally Rocket 51 at work, which will participate in the next Admiral’s Cup, with Vasco Vascotto as tactician and a super crew, and expectations were not disappointed. How the Mediterranean ORC Championship went

The wallyrocket51 Team Django was very fast a little bit in all conditions and particularly so on the last day, crossing the finish line with almost the entire aft side of advantage over the Tp 52s and going on to win the review.

On the podium with Team Django, in the Middle and Lower Tyrrhenian National Championship standings, are the French of Confluence, Jean-Pierre Joly’s GP 42, and the Italians of To Be, Stefano Rusconi’s Italia Yacht 11.98, defending the colors of the Italian Yacht Club.

“It’s a great feeling, because it’s been many years since we started the design of this boat: developing the concept, building it, putting it in the water, making sure every detail was correct. It’s been a long and challenging journey, so to finally be able to put it all together and see that the concept works, that the boat performs as expected and improves day by day, is very satisfying. We are really happy for the boat’s first win,” commented Guillermo Parada, wallyrocket51 strategist, Team Django.

Confluence will start as the leader with a two-point margin over To Be followed by Lisa R, Giovanni Di Vincenzo’s Ker 46, which has already proven its ability to juggle well on the high seas, winning the 2023 edition of the historic regatta.

Class C Regatta: Enrico Danielli’s Crazy Horse 2.
Cruise/Regatta Class C: Cosixty 8 by Salvatore Casolaro

Three Gulfs Sailing Week now continues with the highly anticipated 70th Three Gulfs Regatta, starting Friday, May 16 from Naples at 4:15 p.m., followed by the prestigious IMA Maxi European Championship in Sorrento May 16-22.
