German shipyard YYachts has announced a major restyling of its most successful model, the Y7. A restyling that does not upset the original design, signed judel/vrolijk & co., but refines what has made this 72-foot carbon boat a true success: lightness, ease of use, and a minimalist aesthetic consistent with the “the art of simplicity” philosophy. The shipyard speaks of a “subtle yet impactful” evolution, and indeed the new features go a long way toward affecting comfort, usability, and performance without distorting the unmistakable lines of this yacht.

YYachts Y7, the evolution of a bestseller

With nearly twenty units delivered worldwide, the Y7 represents the excellence of the German philosophy applied to high-performance cruising sailing. Michael Schmidt, founder of the Greifswald shipyard, commented, ” The Y7 has been a great success and a benchmark in its segment. When you make something really good and customers are extremely satisfied with it, it’s hard to improve on it. But we felt it was time to evolve the Y7: we are modernizing the yacht to keep it current and make sure it remains a style statement-elegant and unmistakably cutting-edge “.

The new Y7 introduces a number of subtle but significant changes that elevate its comfort, safety and performance. The hull lines have been refined to create more interior volume while improving stability and maintaining excellent sailing performance. judel/vrolijk has also streamlined the bow profile and rebalanced the broadside line, preserving the typical “YYachts silhouette” that is instantly recognizable even from a distance.

Particularly innovative is the design of the cockpit, where the sickle cell recedes toward the superstructure, creating wider passages and conveying an impression of generous proportions. The asymmetrical entrance keeps the central cockpit passageway clear, improving flow and usability, while a new U-shaped settee on the starboard side significantly increases comfort.

Carbon construction and easy sailing

The Y7 confirms YYachts’ construction philosophy based on the integral use of carbon for hull, deck and mast. This structural choice guarantees a displacement contained in about 34 tons, exceptionally light for a yacht of this size. Lightness translates into superior performance and, above all, the ability to maintain appreciable speeds even in light winds, a distinctive feature of all yachts from the Greifswald shipyard.

Handling remains “owner friendly”: all halyards and sheets are deferred to the helm stations, with clean transitions that eliminate interference in guest areas and allow maneuvering without leaving the helm. Optimized ballast ratio and semi-balanced double rudder contribute to precise control and predictable response even with reduced crew and in light air conditions, a context where the Y7 has built its reputation.

Interior flexibility with the touch of Scandinavian design

One of the most significant new features is the increased interior volume and expanded owner’s cabin, now available in three different layout configurations. Owners can choose between a new VIP guest cabin, a feature not available in previous versions, or a more generous crew area with dedicated crew mess, offering maximum flexibility according to specific usage needs. The crew ladder remains elegantly integrated into the cockpit design, almost invisible at first glance, but allows for separate, discreet paths between those who live on the boat and those who operate it.

The interiors arise from the dialogue between the YYachts Design Team led by Francesca Modica and Danish architect David Thulstrup. The four moodboards-Milan, Baltic, Sugi Ban and Glacier-define distinctive atmospheres ranging from the textural warmth of brushed wood to light Nordic tones to sophisticated contrasts inspired by “burnt” wood. Each owner can fully customize the interiors, from the choice of wood essences to the fabrics, in a tailor-made product approach that respects the brand’s understated identity.
