Urgent message to all boats and owners who are passionate about sailing. Don’t put your boat to rest just yet. There’s an event you can’t miss in Liguria’s Tigullio Gulf. It is calledthe “Tigullio Race 50th Event,” a unique and unrepeatable occasion to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the Tigullio Winter Championship.
It takes place on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025 along the iconic historic route that encompasses the entire gulf, from Portofino to Sestri Levante.
The “Tigullio Race 50th Event,” a major regatta/event, is open to all sailboats, tared and untrimmed, of all sizes and shapes. You will be side by side with famous boats, fierce crews but also cruising boats with friends who want to have fun. All together, no holds barred.

Franco Noceti, who has been organizing the first Italian Winter Championship for fifty years, conceived this celebration of sailing, together with the Tigullio clubs. The Giornale della Vela supports this unique and unrepeatable event….the GdV also turned 50 this year! “Tigullio Race 50th Event” will be a memorable day of celebration on the water and ashore on Saturday, November 8, where, together with everyone, sailors will celebrate the 50th edition of the Tigullio Winter Championship, which runs from November 9, 2025 to February 15, 2026 over six weekends(full program here).
Who can participate in the Tigullio Race 50th Event.

All boats, of any size and equipment, can participate. the organizers will give each boat a “rating” that will allow it to compete on a level playing field. Boats will be divided into two categories: Sport Boat for those who want to use any type of sail (gennaker, spi, code 0), while those who want to use only mainsail and jib will be placed in the Cruising Boat category.
The historical route in the Gulf of Tigullio

The history of the Gulf of Tigullio has always been linked to sailing. The Gulf of Tigullio is the natural stage for a coastal route that, starting from Chiavari, heads to the Portofino mountain and continues to the Sestri Levante peninsula, ending in front of Chiavari. A route that allows sailing in different gaits, protected by the Gulf of Tigullio. The miles to cover? About 15 miles. Departure time? Around 11 a.m.
Tigullio Race 50th Event party, awards ceremony, refreshments

A birthday such as the 50th anniversary of Italy’s first winter championship must be celebrated properly. Once the sea race open to all is over, the shore party begins. Time to return to the mooring, get the boat in order, and everyone meets at 5:30 p.m. in Chiavari for the big shore party. For those who want, the boat can be moored free of charge for a few hours at Marina Calata Ovest in Chiavari. Just a few meters away is the Yacht Club Chiavari, which is hosting the event ashore.
Only at the time of the awards ceremony will the rankings be revealed, divided into the two categories Sport Boat and Cruising Boat. A special ranking for “Classic Boats,” boats at least 25 years old, will also be drawn up. Finally, the overall winner of the “Tigullio Race 50th Event” will be declared. Remember, the boat that comes first does not necessarily win, the ranking is drawn up taking into account the characteristics of each boat, putting everyone on an equal footing.
After the awards ceremony is over, with rich and unsuspected prizes to the winners but also with a raffle of nautical accessories that even those who did not finish among the first can win, the rich refreshmentsbegin where the crewsexchange stories and jokes about the regatta at sea.
