Contrary to the forecast, which called for rain and bora up to 25 knots, the 287 registered boats struggled not a little to cross the finish line last Sunday at the Veleziana, as well as at the Barcolana, due to good weather. First to finish, in front of the historical headquarters of the Compagnia della Vela in Bacino San Marco, Prosecco DOC Shockwave 3 of Claudio Demartis and Pompeo Tria, with Mitja Kosmina at the helm and skipper Riccardo Bonetti. A result that smacks of revenge on Arca SGR, Furio Benussi’s maxi, the bearer of Yacht Club Adriaco, which has already won the Trieste – Venice Two Cities One Sea, a transfer regatta between Barcolana and Veleziana, and the Venice Hospitality Challenge, the regatta for Maxi organized by Yacht Club Venezia.
Prosecco DOC dominates at the 16th Veleziana
There were 287 boats on the starting line of the 16th edition of the Veleziana, set south of the San Nicolรฒ dam in front of the Venice Lido. At 10 a.m. sharp, as scheduled, the Race Committee kicked off the regatta. Thus, as the bulk of the fleet entered the Lido inlet, pushed by a shy 4/5 knot bora and helped by the incoming current, the first maxis crossed the finish line in just 48 minutes from the start. First in real Prosecco DOC Shockwave 3, which, with a tactically perfect race, thus won the Veleziana Trophy for the second year in a row. Second place for Arca SGR followed closely by Paolo Montefusco’s IDRUSA.

“We are very happy with this result,” declares Claudio Demartis., co-armor of Prosecco DOC together with Pompeo Tria. “Winning this regatta against such a strong opponent as ARCA for us is a source of pride, because getting the better of one of the strongest boats in the whole Mediterranean means we have done a perfect regatta“.

“
ร
itwas a complicated regatta at the beginning
– is the satisfied comment of Mitja Kosmina – but using Code 0 was the winning wild card to get off the starting line. We covered ARCA well and, having the wind coming in our faces, we managed not to end up in the trash, keeping up well until the finish line“.

The awards will be held in November at the headquarters of the Sailing Company on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
