The big day has also arrived for Ambrogio Beccaria, following Francesca Clapcich‘s announcement: this time it is the Milanese sailor’s turn to kick off his Imoca 60 project , destination Vendée Globe 2028. It will be called Allagrande Mapei Racing, the boat with which Beccaria, 34, is preparing to tackle this three-year oceanic adventure that will take him all the way to the queen of all regattas, the round-the-world solo non-stop race.

The boat chosen is a latest-generation Imoca 60 that recently concluded the Vendée Globe, Thomas Ruyant’s Finot/Koch plan, formerly Vulnerable, a de facto twin boat of the one with which Yoann Richomme finished the round-the-world race in second place. This is a highly anticipated announcement for Italian sailing, in light of what Ambrogio Beccaria has shown he can do first in Mini 650 and then in Class 4o.
Ambrogio Beccaria and the collaboration with Thomas Ruyant

The season is off to a strong start right away, because after a period of construction, the Imoca 60 Allagrande Mapei Racing will go on the water in July and on August 10 will set off for The Ocean Race Europe, the first official engagement to be crewed. Thomas Ruyant will be Beccaria’s co-skipper in this first phase, an important guide with 3 Vendée Globes behind him, who will help the Italian sailor quickly get in tune with the new boat.
Not least because after The Ocean Race Europe, which ends in September, there will be no time to draw breath; in fact, on October 26, the Transat Cafe l’Or, formerly Jacques Vabre, will start from Le Havre to Martinique, this time in doubles, with Beccaria having Thomas Ruyant at his side once again. At the end of the year this side-by-side period will officially end and Beccaria will take 100 percent control of his Imoca 60. He will then begin a phase of training also in solo, and a study to the possible improvements and developments to be made to the boat, for 2026 will be the year of the first solo regattas, and in particular the Route du Rhum.
“Having the opportunity“-commentedBeccaria- “to continue a path of growth that began some time ago is a great privilege for me. To compete in this class is really the ultimate, that’s all I want. I have never even had the courage to dream so big…. and now that I am there, I know there will be tough challenges ahead, but I am motivated to learn from the ocean and, if possible, win some regattas .”
“The sponsors,”Beccaria continued.have a unique value in the sport, their energy involves the whole team, and it is a great fortune for us to have Mapei as a partner. They know the sport well, thanks to their experience with cycling and soccer, and they know that in difficult times it is essential to be self-critical and improve. We have known each other for three years and our relationship is now solid. Mapei is a reliable sponsor and also very affectionate “.
