The countdown has officially started: there are just seven days left until the VELA Cup Sardegna in Cala dei Sardi Marina in the heart of the Costa Smeralda will be overrun with unfurled sails, adrenaline and passion for the sea. The second Sardinian leg of the VELA Cup 2025 is ready to go and we look forward to welcoming you in large numbers to the dock! Let’s see what the weather will be like and how to read the predicted weather to set the race tactics.
What the weather will be like – by Meteomed
With one week to go before the event, we see the marine weather forecast for the Vela Cup leg in Cala dei Sardi shared by Riccardo Ravagnan of Meteomed, a partner of the VELA Cup. At this time distance it is more correct to speak of a weather “trend” rather than a detailed forecast. For the day of August 21, reliability percentages are around 50-60%, due to the significant dispersion among the various forecast models.
The most plausible weather trend
Based on analysis of available models, the regatta will take place on a day with stable, sunny weather. Atmospheric pressure is expected to decrease during the course of the day.
As for the wind, the trend indicates a rotation and strengthening in the afternoon. If in the morning the wind will be very light from the west-northwest, it is expected tointensify to nearly 10 knots in the afternoon, with an east-southeast direction.
What’s in store for you Aug. 20-22
– Three days of sports and fun. Spectacular regatta in the Gulf of Cugnana, among the crystal clear waters and dreamy bays, dock parties and conviviality under the stars.
– The regatta for everyone. No certificates or special experience are needed, boats of all types and sizes can participate, from dinghies to large cabin cruisers, with division into Cruising or Sport Boat categories. Once again this year, the aim is to exceed 50 boats entered, in perfect VELA Cup style: “whoever comes first wins, but really...everyone wins (almost) with the raffle prizes.”
– Democratic formula and prizes for all. Prizes are awarded for the top three in each class and category (according to the secret formula of the VELA Cup fee system), the most elegant boat, the “oldest” boat, and also gadget draws among entrants. No one goes away empty-handed!
– Free mooring at the Cala dei Sardi Marina. For the nights of Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21 (subject to availability).
– Gift bag, official T-shirt, party and live music. Unmissable rendezvous in the marina garden, with buffet and live music, to celebrate sailing and the friendship that makes this event unique.
– If you have a Classic Boat and are registered with the Official Classic Boat Registry for you, registration for the VELA Cup Procida (and all other stages) is free!
– There is an art exhibition about the sea. The project signed by artist Ana Maria Serna aims, through original and brightly colored works, to talk about the sea and its resources in 360 degrees: from the well-being that the sea can create on a physical and mental level to tourism and economic.
The route

The regatta traverses one of the circuit’s most beloved itineraries: starting in front of Porto Rotondo, rounding the island of Mortoriotto and finishing on the line in front of Cala dei Sardi. Ten miles immersed in the nature of the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.
Registration still open!
If you haven’t done so, now is a good time to register for the VELA Cup Cala dei Sardi organized by the Yacht Club Cala dei Sardi in collaboration with the Journal of Sailing.
