This is it: in just three days (regatta Thursday, August 21), the Marina Cala dei Sardi will be transformed into the stage for the VELA Cup, the great sailing festival that every year, for 7 stages, gathers experienced crews, cruising enthusiasts and, this year more than ever, a fleet of dream Classic Boats. If you’re in Costa Smeralda with your boat – big or small, with a large crew or in “family & friends” trim – the VELA Cup Cala dei Sardi is the opportunity you can’t miss: all you need here is mainsail and genoa, zero bureaucracy and all the fun of a regatta among friends.

And you don’t need to be an experienced racer: in the Cruising Boat category you can sail in complete relaxation with just a mainsail and jib and enjoy the fascinating and easy course, designed for everyone, that takes you around the beautiful islands of Soffi, Mortorio and Mortoriotto, among turquoise waters and breathtaking views.

And for classic boat lovers, the Classic Boat gathering is the real gem of the VELA Cup Cala dei Sardi: already over 15 classic boats have registered, with passionate crews ready to bring the tradition and timeless style of these hulls to life. Want to add your own? If you join the Official Classic Boat Registry, participation in the VELA Cup is free – an unmissable opportunity for classic boats.

But the best part of the VELA Cup comes in the late afternoon: after the regatta, the Marina Cala dei Sardi opens its seaside garden for the big VELA Cup party. Among music, toasts, prize-giving for all and postcard views, crews and friends old and new gather to celebrate real sailing, the kind made of passion and sharing. Typical Sardinian food and drinks for all crews accompany the awards ceremony, where everyone can win something!

The route

The VELA Cup Cala dei Sardi course includes 10 miles of sailing among crystal clear waters and Caribbean islands. It starts from Porto Rotondo towards Mortoriotto, turns around and descends back to the Gulf. The finish is in front of the Cala dei Sardi Marina.

The regatta traverses one of the circuit’s most beloved itineraries: starting in front of Porto Rotondo, rounding the island of Mortoriotto and finishing on the line in front of Cala dei Sardi. Ten miles immersed in the nature of the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.
