There are still two more stops to go (in Cala dei Sardi in Sardinia in August and Procida in Campania in September) before the VELA Cup 2025 Grand Finale in Capo d’Orlando, Sicily, Oct. 3-5 (regatta: Saturday, Oct. 4). The unmissable event, which over the years has gathered the passion of hundreds of boats and many sailors and enthusiasts of all levels, is a great way to end the summer right there where it is still hot. An exclusive place, among the scents and lights of the Sicilian coast, at the gates of the fascinating Aeolian Islands.

Why participate

The journey of the VELA Cup 2025 concludes with the seventh leg of the circuit scheduled for October in Sicily. As autumn advances in the north and the air gets cooler, we aim for the island of the sun. On the weekend of Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, the Capo d’Orlando Marina takes center stage, and on Saturday, Oct. 4, we take to the water for the last VELA Cup regatta on the doorstep of the fascinating Aeolian Islands. Far from the summer crowds, Sicily here still offers enviable views (and temperatures), authentic cuisine and living culture-the weather is the perfect one to extend the summer with a weekend to remember.

The location of the VELA Cup Sicily? Unbeatable. The modern Capo d’Orlando Marina, a stone’s throw from downtown and picturesque beaches, accommodates boats up to 45 meters with a 5-meter bottom, and more than 500 berths. It is the ideal base to cast off your moorings and set off on a cruise to explore the Aeolian Islands off-season, or explore the coast, east to Messina and west to Palermo. The marina here is alive all year round, and keeping your boat here really means using it as a home on the sea always ready to set sail. Spartivento, among Italy’s leading charter operators and a partner of the Sicilian leg of the VELA Cup, has its base here for cruises to coastlines and archipelagos rich in beauty, nature and authenticity. The hinterland then offers natural and gastronomic pearls such as the Nebrodi Park, just a few kilometers away to the south.

Prizes and surprises for all

Anyone who has participated in a VELA Cup leg before knows this: almost everyone goes home with something. The rankings are compiled using the VELA Cup secret fee formula, and within the two categories Sport Boat and Cruising Boat, boats are divided by homogeneous lengths. Prizes are there for each category, as well as dedicated prizes for Classic Boats, boats over 25 years old. If you have a boat from the Bénéteau yard you can even compete twice, as there is the Bénéteau Cup inside the event. And if you’re feeling uncompetitive because you’re sailing in relaxation, no problem-there are also prizes for the boat and crew that excelled in elegance, and even for the newest boat. Best of all, coveted raffle prizes offered by VELA Cup partners await the luckiest, not the fastest at sea!

Capo d’Orlando Marina is on the northeastern coast of Sicily and overlooks the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, which can be reached with only 14 miles of navigation. Behind it, however, lies the Nebrodi Park, the largest protected natural area in Sicily, which, with its characteristic villages and hilly landscapes, is a favorite destination for nature excursions.

Those participating in the VELA Cup Sicilia can take advantage of free mooring offered by the Capo d’Orlando Marina (subject to availability). The marina applies additional discounted rates for those who want to stay for an additional period. A unique opportunity to be based here and enjoy an off-season cruise to the Aeolian Islands and Sicily. If you are moving from other regions and want to rent a boat here to participate, keep in mind that Capo d’Orlando is easy to reach: from Palermo airport it takes only two hours by train, to reach it and have an off-season swim!

No boat? No problem: You can find boarding on the event’s Facebook page or rent one with Spartivento (a stage partner) by accessing dedicated offers.
