We are exactly 30 days away from one of the most anticipated events of the year, the last summer leg(there will be an “autumn one in Sicily”): the VELA Cup Procida 2025! From September 26 to 28, the unmistakable atmosphere of the Campanian island will welcome sailors from all over the Gulf of Naples (and beyond) for a weekend of racing, sea and partying under the banner of the passion for sailing.

The program of the VELA Cup Procida

The VELA Cup Procida celebration is not limited to the regatta at sea…quite the contrary! On land there is a packed program awaiting all crews returning from the regatta.

Friday, Sept. 26 boats arriving from outside the area will have all day to reach the Marina di Procida, ready to welcome them by hosting them free of charge for two nights (until Sunday, September 28, subject to availability). Just this year, by the way, the Marina di Procida turns 20 years old: even during the VELA Cup there will be spaces and opportunities to celebrate this important anniversary together!

Saturday, Sept. 27 in the morning, after the briefing, the regatta/sailing “for everyone” will be staged : open to all types of boats, from dinghies to classics, from racers to cruising hulls – with no obligation for certificates or memberships – perfect both for those who want to challenge the stopwatch and for those who prefer to enjoy the magic of the Gulf of Naples more in relaxation.

In the afternoon, again in the Marina di Procida spaces, a dinner-aperitif will be set up for all crews, with beer and fried anchovies for those who participated in the morning regatta. The program then includes the big VELA Cup Procida prize-giving party (where almost everyone wins), followed by music until midnight!

Sunday, Sept. 28 there will be a breakfast for all crews to say goodbye one last time before departing (for those coming from outside the area) and sailing home.

How the regatta works

The winning formula does not change again this year: free berths for the night of Friday 26 and Saturday 27 for all participants (subject to availability) at the Marina di Procida, which is part of the Marinedi network, discounts on additional nights, and special benefits for those who extend their stay. You can choose to participate in Cruising Boat mode – with only mainsail and jib, ideal for “family & friends” crews – or in Sport Boat mode, for those who want to experience the competition with the full sailing arsenal at their disposal (spinnaker, gennaker, code 0….) Signing up is very simple: all you need is a boat and the desire to sail together!

Regardless of how you choose to participate, the VELA Cup rankings – as of this year – are processed with a new secret fee system to allow all boats to truly compete on a level playing field. And remember, if you have a Classic Boat there is an additional special dedicated leaderboard, plus if you join the Official Classic Boat Registry, participation in the VELA Cup is free – an unmissable opportunity for vintage boats.

The route

The VELA Cup Procida will have a dream course: 10 miles of spectacular sailing You start in front of the Palazzo D’Avalos, head south past Marina di Corricella and skirt the island’s skyline up to Punta Serra. Once you turn the buoy, you head back to the finish line, still in front of the D’Avalos Palace.

Procida in this season is an even more pleasant island to visit, as there is less “crush” than in the hot (and crowded) summer months. And for those who decide to stay longer, Monday, Sept. 29 is also the celebration of St. Michael, the island’s patron saint, with a procession and a very special atmosphere in the old town.

Strategically located between Ischia and Capri, Marina di Procida is also an ideal starting point for exploring the stunning bays of the Amalfi Coast.

The island, positioned between two always breezy canals, offers authentic sailing and picture-postcard scenery: sandy beaches, colorful little houses and the alleys recounted by Elsa Morante and Italian cinema. Don’t miss the most “Mediterranean” stop of the season!
